Well 2008 has begun and the news is good. Since New Years the Spoonful has been on two cruises in the Carribbean and a week in Canada's western provinces.
Early in January, we traveled up to Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan for shows in Winnipeg, Edmonton, Regina and Calgary. We had a great time playing to sold out houses and our Canadian hosts could not have been nicer. Steve was even able to reconnect with two gals he had met in Spain in 1964 and had not seen again until this year. Judy Gunn and Carolyn Liddle had stayed in close touch over the years after touring Europe together in 1964, where they met future Spoonful Steve Boone and his pal Pete Davey who were also touring Europe on their motorcycles and chose Spain and the little coastal town of Sitges to spend their last three weeks in Europe before heading home. They met the girls there and became great friends but alas after returning to the states got out of touch and although Judy and Carolyn knew of Steve's success they also lost contact until a few years ago when out of the blue Steve received an email from Judy. As luck would have it Judy lived in Winnipeg and Carolyn lived near Calgary and that just happened to be the first two nights on the tour. They all got to see each other and as Steve said "it was like last week and not 43 years ago that I last saw them". They have pledged to stay in touch and not let 43 more years go by before meeting up again.
Later in January the band boarded the Costa Mediterranea in Fort Lauderdale and played along with Paul Revere and the Raiders, Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers and Davey Jones of the Monkees on the 2008 Concert at Sea cruise put on by Harmon Travel. Bob Harmon and all the crew at Harmon Travel do a great job and we all had a super good time and look forward to doin' it again. And as if we weren't having a good enough time doing that, on March 16th we boarded the Costa Fortuna again in Fort Lauderdale and played for the inaugural "Cruisin to Music" cruise with Three Dog Night and The Hot Brass Monkeys. We stopped in San Juan, St. Marteen, Tortola, BVI and Nassau and could not have enjoyed it more. Look for pictures and videos of the cruise to be up on the web site. So thank you Ed Rudner and all of the gang at On-Line Vacations for putting on such a great cruise. We love getting to spend time with our fans on these cruises and these were no exceptions.
We also want to thank Hannah Yester for doing such a good job on designing the new web site. We welcome your comments about the new web site and will have our on-line store up and running real soon.
